What is a field scientist anyways?
Are your students intimidated by science and think it is all lab coats and microscopes? Well there is a whole other world of science out there where people get to spend their days outside, exploring new environments, watching animals or digging up fossils: the world of field science.
We are excited to announce our new program: Being a field scientist. It is a one hour in-class program showing students the exciting world of field science based on my own experience as a primatologist. It is easily modified for any grade between 1-12 and can be a great addition to any science class or careers unit. We go through the field work wins and fails, this is a fun program to get students excited about an area of science they might not be aware of. Students get to "act like a primatologist" by observing videos of different primate species and comparing what they see. We bring our ape and monkey skulls as well, so students can get a hands on look at different primate species. If you want to show your students a interesting area of science, this program is for you!
The program has been met with very positive reviews: "In a camp setting, it is often difficult to get students to engage with speakers but the opposite was true for Primate Tales, we had to pull kids away from the classroom. With such insight into the world of Primatology our campers learned so much more then they would have just by reading on their own and they were able to get all of their questions answered. We can’t wait to work with Primate Tales in the future!"
